Glen Este Middle School offers several after school
clubs for students to be involved in. Below are the clubs we
have for the 2009/10 school year.
Glen Este Middle School
Student Council
Student Council is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th
grade students attending Glen Este Middle School. Students
interested in being council members are expected to be conscientious
students with a strong desire to work with their peers, faculty and
administration toward the common goal of improving the learning
culture of Glen Este Middle School. Campaigning begins September 14
and elections will be held September 29. Students will be notified
about meetings via school announcements.
Mrs. Alicia Walls and
Ms. Emily Malone are
advisors. The purpose of GEMSSC is to:

Create an avenue for students to voice and deal
with student concerns and issues;

Empower students with voice and responsibility
in their school lives;
-
Include students in the processes, which
influence their academic lives;
-
Give students practice in democracy and
leadership;
-
Assist other citizens and groups in our
community;
-
Assist in peer conflict resolution.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band is open to 7th and 8th grade students.
Music of various styles is performed, including jazz, blues, rock
and swing. Rehearsals start in October and are held once a week
until 3:30 p.m. in the band room. Anyone interested in joining the
jazz band should see Mr.
Morgan, band director, regarding audition times.
Homework Club
Homework Club, sponsored by the PTO, is open to all
students at Glen Este Middle School. The purpose of the club is to
help students with homework and/or study skills. Students are
required to be on time and have the desire to work. Teachers will be
present at all sessions for academic help. Homework Club meets every
Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 until 3:15 p.m. The location changes
quarterly and will be announced via school announcements.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) is a group of
students, headed by Mrs.
Erin Brewer, who do service projects at school and in the
community and have loads of fun while doing it! FCA is open to all
students. Meetings are held every Friday after school until 3:30
p.m. in room 306. Meetings start October 2.
Sign Language Club
In Sign Language Club, students will be introduced
to and educated about the deaf culture and using sign language. Sign
Language Club is open to all students. The club will meet in room
309 until 3:30 p.m., starting in late October. Students should
listen to announcements for more information. Ms. Elizabeth Williams
is the club advisor. Come and let your hands do the talking!
Bowling
Cherry Grove Lanes offers two 10-week sessions (fall
and winter) of after-school bowling open to all students. A fee is
charged. The fall session begins October 1. Students will be
transported from school by Petermann Transportation every Thursday.
Parents must pick up students no later than 5:30 p.m. at Cherry
Grove Lanes. Students should listen to announcements for
registration information or parents can call Cherry Grove Lanes at
528-7888.
Yearbook
Ms.
Emily Malone, yearbook advisor, is taking applications for the
yearbook committee at this time. Applications are available from
language arts teachers and are due back to the teacher by September
15. The yearbook committee will meet every other Wednesday starting
September 23 from 2:15-3:15. |
