Program Goals and Objectives

bulletGoal 1:
The gifted program will provide the opportunity to develop and apply critical thinking skills.
*  Demonstrate the ability to think critically and analytically.
*  Demonstrate the ability to analyze information for meaning and reliability.
*  Demonstrate the ability to synthesize and create new ideas/products.
*  Demonstrate the ability to reach conclusions and make judgments.
bulletGoal 2:
The gifted program will provide the opportunity to develop and use creative thinking skills and problem-solving techniques.
*  Identify and apply the components of the creative thinking process.
*  Demonstrate the ability to apply creative thinking to a new situation.
*  Demonstrate the ability to identify and apply a problem-solving model.
bulletGoal 3:
The gifted program will provide the opportunity to develop research skills and the techniques necessary to complete independent study.
*  Organize and select a topic for research.
*  Demonstrate the ability to use facilities in or outside the classroom for research purposes, e.g., library, communication webs, etc.
*  Apply questioning techniques to aid research.
*  Apply research methods.
*  Develop an appropriate way to present investigative findings.
*  Evaluate the process and product of an independent study.

The gifted program will provide the opportunity to develop positive interpersonal skills.
*  Demonstrate the use of the five senses to receive information.
*  Use oral, written, and other communication skills effectively.
*  Determine factors which motivate or hinder self or others.
*  Develop decision-making skills.
