in the Cincinnati Area. Cost is $480 and applicants earn 3 credit
hours from UC.

Graduation Requirements through the Class of
2013
The requirements for graduation from high school through the Class of
2013 include earning twenty (20) units of credit in grades nine through
twelve as follows:
English Language Arts -- 4 units
Health -- 1/2 unit
Mathematics -- 3 units
Physical Education -- 1/2 unit
Science -- 3 units
Social Studies -- 3 units
Fine Arts -- 1 unit
Electives -- 5 units
Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2014
and Beyond
Beginning with the Class of 2014 and beyond, the
requirements for
graduation from high school include earning twenty (20) units of credit in
grades nine through twelve as follows:
English Language Arts -- 4 units
Health -- ½ unit
Mathematics -- 4 units
Physical Education -- ½ unit
Science -- 3 units
Social Studies -- 3 units
Fine Arts -- 1 unit
Electives -- 4 units
Other requirements:
§ Mathematics units must include 1 unit of Algebra II or the equivalent of
Algebra II.
§ Pass all parts of Ohio Graduation Test
§ The Ohio Core allows school districts to adopt a policy that would exempt
students who participate in interscholastic athletics, band or cheerleading
for two full seasons from the physical education requirement. Students must
take another course of at least 60 contact hours in its place.
§ Science units must include 1 unit of physical sciences, 1 unit of life
sciences and 1 unit advanced study in one or more of the following sciences:
Chemistry, Physics, or other physical science; advanced biology or other life
science; Astronomy, Physical Geology, or other earth or space science.
§ Social Studies units must include ½ unit of American History and ½ unit of
American Government.
§ All students must receive instruction in Economics and Financial Literacy
during grades 9-12 and must complete at least two semesters of Fine Arts taken
any time in grades 7-12.
§ Students following a career-technical pathway are exempted from the Fine
Arts requirement.
Honors Diploma Criteria
Students
must have 7 of the 8 criteria listed below:

units of English
- At
least 4 units of mathematics, which shall include Alg I, Alg II, Geometry, and
another higher level course.
- At
least 4 units of science, including one unit of physics and one unit of
chemistry.
- Ear 4
units of social studies.
- Earn
either 3 units of one foreign language or two units each of two foreign
languages.
- Earn
one unit of fine arts.

Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 3.5.

Obtain a composite score of 27 on ACT or a combined score of 1210 on the SAT
(excluding the writing section.)
Award of
Merit Criteria
- 4
units of English

units of mathematics, including algebra and geometry)

units of science (including 2 units of biology, chemistry, and/or physics)
- 3
units of a foreign language (or 2 units in each of two languages)

President’s Award

Requests
Print and complete the
Transcript Request Form.
The form must be submitted to the appropriate Guidance Counselor Office on
the Glen Este High School Campus.
Glen Este High School cannot process transcript requests via e-mail, FAX or
over the telephone.
School policy requires student signature as well as parent signature on the
transcript request.

About The Glen Este High
School Guidance Department
Counseling
The Guidance Department has three full-time counselors.
Mr. Hall will assist the incoming Freshman Class in the transition to High
School. Students
in grades 10, 11, and 12 are assigned to either Mrs. Lewis or Mrs. Reckers,
in order to facilitate the counselor-student relationship throughout the
remaining three years at Glen Este High School. Counselors are available
to meet with students individually regarding academic, personal, social, and career
concerns.
Group Guidance
Counselors meet with freshmen in group sessions to help them cope
with the transition to high school. Counselors meet with upperclassmen to discuss career
explorations, decision-making skills, course selection, college planning and financial aid
and scholarship opportunities.
Testing Program
The Guidance Department has a comprehensive
testing program which measures student aptitude, achievement, and interests:
- The Ohio Graduation Test
- The PSAT and PLAN are given to sophomores and juniors as a
preparation for college entrance exams and as a criterion for scholarship competition.
- ACT and SAT information and registration materials are provided
to juniors and seniors.
- Advanced Placement tests are provided for
students taking Advanced Placement courses.
Information
The OH Career Information System is a computer-based program that
provides current information on occupations, two and four-year colleges, graduate school,
proprietary and vocational schools, sources of scholarship and financial aid, additional
sources of career information and answers to questions related to the world of work.
County "College Fair" is held in the Fall.
A financial aid workshop is provided for Senior
parents.
Registration and Scheduling
Counselors meet with students both individually and in groups to
help each student plan an
appropriate curriculum relevant to career interests and
abilities.
Records
The Guidance Department is responsible for
keeping academic records for all students.
Parent Conferences
Counselors are available for conferences with
parents upon request.
