  ACT/SAT Prep Class is being offered Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:30pm to 4:30pm, on the Amelia High School Campus. Cost is $175.  Class dates: May 14, 16, 21, 23, 28.

  A free, week-long Accounting Program at The Ohio State University For Minority students, is June 9 thru 14.

  Attention Juniors--This spring is the time to sign up for the ACT or the SAT!  Go to www.actstudent.org for the ACT or www.collegeboard.com for the SAT.

  Attention Seniors--Get money for college!  Fill out the FAFSA (Free App for Federal Student Aid)

  Seniors who have not ordered cap and gown need to see Ms. Veronica in West Office.

  Juniors with a 2.8 GPA or higher may qualify to attend the Today's Learners, Tomorrow's Leaders (TL2)--a highly selective, three week Summer program at the University of Cincinnati learning about jobs and businesses in the Cincinnati Area.  Cost is $480 and applicants earn 3 credit hours from UC.
See Mrs. Reckers in the Guidance Office if interested.

  Attention Seniors interested in a career in Dental Assisting--
Anderson Academy of Dental Assisting is offering a 13 week program!  See your Counselor for details.

  Attention Juniors -- Attend a 3 week Summer program and earn college credit.  The Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders program at the University of Cincinnati will teach you about local businesses and you can earn 3 credits in Economics.  See Mrs. Reckers for details!

  Paid Summer Internships for Seniors at Children’s Hospital Medical Center -- There is one part-time internship open to all Seniors as well as one full-time internship for Seniors who are of African American, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, or American Indian descent.

Scholarship Opportunities

  Seniors interested pursuing a career in Education may apply for a $500 Scholarship from the Clermont County Retired Teachers Association.  See your counselor for details!  Deadline for registration is March 27.

  Attention Seniors applying to a Technical College--Scholarships are available for ITT Tech, Beckfield, Kaplan, Lincoln, and many others.  See your Guidance Counselor for details!

  Brantner Elementary PTO $500 Scholarship for Seniors who attended Brantner Elementary School for 3 years or more.  Must have 3.0 GPA or higher.  See Mrs. Denton for application.

Graduation Requirements through the Class of 2013
The requirements for graduation from high school through the Class of
2013 include earning twenty (20) units of credit in grades nine through
twelve as follows:


English Language Arts -- 4 units
Health -- 1/2 unit
Mathematics -- 3 units
Physical Education -- 1/2 unit
Science -- 3 units
Social Studies -- 3 units
Fine Arts -- 1 unit
Electives -- 5 units

 

Graduation Requirements for the Class of 2014 and Beyond
Beginning with the Class of 2014 and beyond, the requirements for
graduation from high school include earning twenty (20) units of credit in
grades nine through twelve as follows:

English Language Arts -- 4 units
Health -- ½ unit
Mathematics -- 4 units
Physical Education -- ½ unit
Science -- 3 units
Social Studies -- 3 units
Fine Arts -- 1 unit
Electives -- 4 units

Other requirements:

§ Mathematics units must include 1 unit of Algebra II or the equivalent of Algebra II.

§  Pass all parts of Ohio Graduation Test

§ The Ohio Core allows school districts to adopt a policy that would exempt students who participate in interscholastic athletics, band or cheerleading for two full seasons from the physical education requirement. Students must take another course of at least 60 contact hours in its place.

§ Science units must include 1 unit of physical sciences, 1 unit of life sciences and 1 unit advanced study in one or more of the following sciences: Chemistry, Physics, or other physical science; advanced biology or other life science; Astronomy, Physical Geology, or other earth or space science.

§ Social Studies units must include ½ unit of American History and ½ unit of American Government.

§ All students must receive instruction in Economics and Financial Literacy during grades 9-12 and must complete at least two semesters of Fine Arts taken any time in grades 7-12.

§ Students following a career-technical pathway are exempted from the Fine Arts requirement.

Honors Diploma Criteria 

Students must have 7 of the 8 criteria listed below:

  1. 4 units of English
  2. At least 4 units of mathematics, which shall include Alg I, Alg II, Geometry, and another higher level course.
  3. At least 4 units of science, including one unit of physics and one unit of chemistry.
  4. Ear 4 units of social studies.
  5. Earn either 3 units of one foreign language or two units each of two foreign languages.
  6. Earn one unit of fine arts.
  7. Maintain an overall high school grade point average of at least 3.5.
  8. Obtain a composite score of 27 on ACT or a combined score of 1210 on the SAT (excluding the writing section.)

Award of Merit Criteria

  1. 4 units of English
  2. 3 units of mathematics, including algebra and geometry)
  3. 3 units of science (including 2 units of biology, chemistry, and/or physics)
  4. 3 units of a foreign language (or 2 units in each of two languages)
  5. 3 units of social studies (including ½ unit of government)
  6. 2 additional units from:  Business, Computer Science, or Visual or Performing Arts)
  7. Maintain above average attendance as set each year by the Ohio Department of Education.
  8. Earning a 3.25 grade point average for all 4 years, or a 3.5 for grades 11 and 12, or ranking in the top 25 percent of the class)
  9. Participate in extracurricular or community activities.
  10. Demonstrate outstanding citizenship/character traits.

President’s Award

  1. 3.5 grade point average or higher for all 4 years.
  2. Score a 26 or higher on the ACT in either Math or Reading.

Glen Este High School Transcript Requests

Print and complete the Transcript Request Form.
The form must be submitted to the appropriate Guidance Counselor Office on the Glen Este High School Campus.
Glen Este High School cannot process transcript requests via e-mail, FAX or over the telephone.
School policy requires student signature as well as parent signature on the transcript request.
The
Glen Este High School Transcript Request Form is for current students only.
Alumni cannot use the Request Form.

About The Glen Este High School Guidance Department

Counseling

The Guidance Department has three full-time counselors. Mr. Hall will assist the incoming Freshman Class in the transition to High School.  Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 are assigned to either Mrs. Lewis or Mrs. Reckers, in order to facilitate the counselor-student relationship throughout the remaining three years at Glen Este High School. Counselors are available to meet with students individually regarding academic, personal, social, and career concerns.

Group Guidance

    Counselors meet with freshmen in group sessions to help them cope with the transition to high school.  Counselors meet with upperclassmen to discuss career explorations, decision-making skills, course selection, college planning and financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

Testing Program

The Guidance Department has a comprehensive testing program which measures student aptitude, achievement, and interests:

  1. The Ohio Graduation Test
  2. The PSAT and PLAN are given to sophomores and juniors as a preparation for college entrance exams and as a criterion for scholarship competition.
  3. ACT and SAT information and registration materials are provided to juniors and seniors.
  4. Advanced Placement tests are provided for students taking Advanced Placement courses.

Information

    The OH Career Information System is a computer-based program that provides current information on occupations, two and four-year colleges, graduate school, proprietary and vocational schools, sources of scholarship and financial aid, additional sources of career information and answers to questions related to the world of work.

    County "College Fair" is held in the Fall.

    A financial aid workshop is provided for Senior parents.

Registration and Scheduling

          Counselors meet with students both individually and in groups to help each student plan an
          appropriate curriculum relevant to career interests and abilities.

Records

          The Guidance Department is responsible for keeping academic records for all students.

Parent Conferences

          Counselors are available for conferences with parents upon request.
