Spartan Spotlight

November 2005

Principal's Message . . .

I've stressed so many times how much the importance of parental involvement has on student achievement. In this edition of Spartan Spotlight, I want to stress the importance of student involvement here at school. Did you know that there are numerous clubs for students to get involved in, many of which do not require that you "try out" to join? Students that are involved in school activities are more likely to acquire higher grades, develop strong friendships, and acquire more self-confidence.

Glen Este Middle School has established three expectations for our students this school year. The first one is to be "respectful." We’ve addressed what respect looks like when we deal with others. Our second expectation is to be "responsible." We preach to the students the need for them to be an overall good citizen of the school. The third expectation we have for the students is to be "active." We want the students to be involved in their learning. Active can also mean trying or doing their best. Active also means getting involved and doing positive things for themselves and the school community. We all tend to care more about something when we have something vested in it.

Help us promote students being "active" by encouraging your child to take advantage of at least one of the many clubs that are offered at GEMS. You can visit the GEMS website to learn more about the numerous clubs offered, including the days and times that they meet and the club adviser’s name and phone number.
