GEMSSC Removal Policy *

As members of GEMSSC, you are expected to demonstrate to the highest degree the expectations and responsibilities outlined in the Student Code of Conduct section on pages 121 and 122 in the Student Handbook. If a member of GEMSSC chooses to ignore those expectations and responsibilities, the following policies will be enforced.

Discipline Referrals

1st Discipline Referral - Dependant upon the severity and nature of the offense, either a public or private hearing** will take place with the member in question. From that hearing, any one or combination of the following may result:

  • private conference with the parent(s)

  • probation

  • temporary removal from GEMSSC

  • permanent removal from GEMSSC

2nd Discipline Referral - Dependant upon the severity and nature of the offense, either a public or private hearing will take place with the member in question. In addition to the hearing, there will be a parent conference and the member will be put on probation. The student may be temporarily or permanently removed from GEMSSC.

3rd Discipline Referral - The member will be permanently removed from GEMSSC.

Academic Eligibility

GEMSSC members will be expected to maintain a GPA of at least 2.0. Grades for each member will be checked every Friday. If a member fails to maintain the minimum GPA requirement, the following policy will be enforced:

1st Academic Offense - If a member fails to meet the stated academic requirement, a private conference will be held with that member and at least one GEMSSC sponsor. If the member is still ineligible the following Friday, it will be considered as a second offense.

2nd Academic Offense - If a member fails to meet the academic requirement a second time, they will be ineligible to participate in any GEMSSC activity until his or her GPA meets the requirement. In addition, a parent conference will be held to discuss the situation. The member will have two weeks from the point of their second academic offense to meet the requirement. If the requirement continues to go unsatisfied after the two week period, the member will be permanently removed from GEMSSC.

3rd Academic Offense - If a member fails to meet the academic requirement a third time, they will be permanently removed from GEMSSC.

* Removal from GEMSSC will follow the guidelines set forth in the Removal from Extracurricular Activity section on page 123 in the Student Handbook

** Public hearings will be held at Student Council officer meetings. Private hearings will take place with Student Council sponsors only.
