        Connections extend beyond life experience and

        text.

Questioning

    Good readers ask questions before, during, and after 

    reading to better understand.

        Students ask high-level questions to clarify meaning.  Explains how asking questions deepens understanding of the text.  May also generate questions that challenge the author's point of view, motive, and the value of the text.

Inferring

    Evaluating, making predictions, reflecting, judging, and drawing conclusions.

Visualizing

    Using all our senses to create pictures in our mind to connect to the text.

Synthesizing

    Combining what I know with what I read to create a new idea.

Determining Importance

    Finding the most important information in what I read.
