Administering Medication at School

 It is the policy of the West Clermont Local School District that all children’s medication to be administered by the parent's at home. Any pupil who is required to take medication during the regular school day must comply with the appropriate administration regulations:

 If under exceptional circumstances a child is required to take PRESCRIPTION or NON-PRESCRIPTION DRUGS during the regular school day and the parent's cannot come to administer of the mediation, only the school nurse, the health aide, principal or his/she designee will administer  the medication in compliance with the following regulations:

  1. Medication must be brought to school, by a parent/guardian, in a container appropriately labeled by the pharmacy or physician. Medication will be given in the office area or other area designated by the principal.
  2. Written authorization from a physician for both prescription and non-prescription drug, including aspirin, cough medication, etc, and Written permission from parent/guardian, will be required and will include:

A.    Childs name

B.     Name of medication

C.    Time to be administered

D.    Doses

E.     Possible side effects which a physician believes may occur

F.     Duration of time for administering the medication

G.    The Medical Authorization From are available in school office. Must be filled out and signed by a physician and parent/ guardian.

 

District Medication Authorization forms are available in the school office.

 

  1. The principal or his designee will:

A.    Inform the appropriate school personnel of the medication.

B.     Keep a record of the administration of medication.

C.    Keep the medication in a secure place.

D.    Return any used medication to the parent's only.

 

  1. The student must assume responsibility for presenting himself/herself for medication at the appropriate time. School personnel will not assume responsibility for calling students medication.
  2. The parents of the child must assume responsibility for informing the school of any changes in the child’s health or changes in medication.
  3. Parents will be informed of this policy and regulations.
