TREASURER & CFO

Headshot of Dan Romano

At their June 15, 2020 meeting, the West Clermont Board of Education approved a contract with Daniel M. Romano to serve as the district's new treasurer effective August 1, 2020. In this role, Romano will oversee the financial operations of the district including the accuracy and timeliness of all state and federal reporting, the development of the annual district budget, and the district's five-year forecast.

"We are impressed with Dan's background in school finance and his work in the private sector," said Board of Education President Tammy Brinkman. "He has extensive knowledge of school business management and financial leadership. He has the skills to help lead our district forward in a variety of ways. We are both fortunate and excited to have him join our administrative team."

Romano has 22 years of experience in school finance and previously served as treasurer/CFO of both Toledo Public Schools and Sylvania City Schools. In addition to his school finance and leadership work, Dan is also the founder and CEO of Edventures in Learning and previously served as CFO and managing director of Root Learning.

"I am very pleased and honored to have been selected as the district's next treasurer and look forward to serving the board of education, students, and parents of West Clermont Schools," said Romano. "I want to thank both the Board and Superintendent Adams for the trust they have placed in me. The community support and innovative climate - which is very apparent here - is what was so appealing to me about serving this community in this role. This is a chance for me to help kids succeed while contributing to the success and growth of the community as a whole."

Before beginning his career in school finance he was a cost accountant in the private sector with Anaconda Company. Romano received both a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on accounting and information systems and a master's degree in business administration in finance from the University of Toledo.

The Board of Education utilized the assistance of the K-12 Business Consulting (K-12) and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials in the hiring process. After developing a Treasurer Search Profile using feedback from board members, community members, administrators, and support staff, K-12 undertook a state-wide search for a new treasurer. Following a detailed and thorough interview process, Romano was offered a contract to be the district's next treasurer.

"We listened to our staff and community members in seeking an individual with successful governmental finance experience and who is a skilled leader and communicator," said Natasha L. Adams, district superintendent. "I feel confident that Dan will be a great fit here and look forward to working with him to continue our positive momentum as we move the district forward."

We pride ourselves on transparency in operations and believe that strong fiscal stewardship is essential to the experience that we provide in our classrooms and by our teachers. The district’s financial statements are audited annually through the Ohio Auditor’s Office, and we have repeatedly received the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting from the Government Financial Officers Association as well as the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials.

As a school district, West Clermont Schools operates a frugal daily operational budget. Our per pupil spending is well below the state and surrounding district average, which means we are doing as much as we can with less. Added to that, we direct our limited resources to the classroom where they matter most, but our budget is lean and any reductions have a direct impact on the student experience.
