The middle school years are a time of growth, discovery and new opportunities for students. During this time, students step into a new environment, build independence and begin preparing for high school. At West Clermont, we have been intentional about how we support students through each step of that journey.

We also know that students at different grade levels have different needs. What helps a sixth-grade student feel confident and connected can look different from what an eighth-grade student needs as they prepare for what comes next.

That understanding, combined with consistent feedback from families and staff that the middle school can feel too large, has helped shape an important next step for our district.

Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, West Clermont Middle School will remain a single sixth through eighth-grade building, with a more intentional leadership structure designed to make a large school feel smaller and more personalized for every student.

Kevin Jones will serve as the principal of sixth grade, bringing his experience in teaching and learning along with a strong focus on relationships and student success. Jacob Kallgren will continue as principal of seventh and eighth grades. Each grade level will also continue to have a dedicated assistant principal, ensuring consistent day-to-day support.

This approach is not about creating separate schools within the building. Instead, it allows us to better meet students where they are while maintaining one connected middle school experience. Our principals will work closely together to ensure alignment across all grade levels, creating a smooth and intentional progression from sixth through eighth grade and helping every student feel prepared for what comes next.

This work also reflects how we are thinking about our resources. Like many districts, we are navigating financial challenges. That means making thoughtful decisions about where we invest to have the greatest impact. By aligning supports directly within the building and making reductions in other areas, we are prioritizing student outcomes, relationships and daily support.

At its foundation, this shift allows us to live out our core promises in a deeper way. By strengthening relationships, aligning support to student needs and creating a more personalized experience within a connected school community, we are continuing to ensure every learner is supported, challenged and prepared for what comes next.

The West Clermont community recently gathered for the State of the Schools Showcase, welcoming approximately 350 attendees for an evening focused on celebrating student success while sharing an honest look at the future of our district. Superintendent Dr. David Fultz highlighted the many accomplishments of West Clermont students and staff and reaffirmed our commitment to preparing every learner for their future.

West Clermont continues to demonstrate strong academic results while remaining responsible with taxpayer dollars. The district ranks among Ohio’s top districts for Value Added growth, placing in the top 13% statewide, and West Clermont High School recently reached its highest four-year graduation rate ever at 97.4%. Students continue to shine both in and out of the classroom, earning recognition in academics, music, and athletics, while several staff members were honored at the regional and state level for excellence in teaching.

The evening also reinforced the district’s commitment to its vision through WC Your Future: Preparing Students for Anything, Not Just Something. This work centers around three core promises to students — Learning, Leading, and Genius — ensuring that every child has the opportunity to build skills, develop leadership, and discover their unique strengths.

Dr. Fultz also spoke transparently about financial challenges facing the district due to recent state legislation impacting school funding. While these changes may require difficult decisions in the future, West Clermont remains committed to working together with families and the community to navigate the path forward.

The evening concluded with families exploring the showcase and experiencing firsthand how West Clermont students are learning, leading, and succeeding every day. Together, as one community, we continue to build a district where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Sharing the Love During #LoveWC Week 2026
Love looks like showing up for one another, and during #LoveWC Week 2026, our West Clermont community will do just that. From February 23–27, students and staff across the district will come together to celebrate what it means to be WC Strong and part of a community committed to helping every learner learn, lead and succeed.

Throughout the week, schools will participate in a districtwide Spirit Week, offering students and staff ways to show their West Clermont pride. While activities may look a little different from building to building, the focus is the same everywhere: building connection and celebrating what makes West Clermont a great place to learn and grow.

#LoveWC Week also includes an opportunity to give back. Schools will collect peanut butter and jelly for the IPM food pantry to support local families in need. Peanut butter and jelly are high-demand pantry staples, and every donation makes a difference. To add a little friendly competition, the class that collects the most items will earn a pizza party.

#LoveWC Week highlights the everyday moments that define West Clermont: students supporting one another, staff going above and beyond, and a community that values kindness, service and working together.
