West Clermont Words: Excitement

I’m thrilled to begin my second year as superintendent of the West Clermont School District. We have so much to celebrate together as a district!

There is both excitement and positive momentum in this district as we know our academic outcomes are improving. Added to that, there is much to celebrate with our facilities. We have two new state-of-the-art school buildings opening at the Summerside and Willowville sites; we are in the process of renovating Clough Pike Elementary school, and now we are (finally!) offering climate-controlled environments in all of our buildings.

Through our elementary attendance boundary changes, we have been able to accommodate all requests, including all building-to-building transfer requests, while continuing to be able to welcome open enrollment students into our district while maintaining a comfortable teacher-to-student ratio in our classrooms.

Two new peer-to-peer transition programs for 6th graders at the middle school (W.E.B. — Where Everybody Belongs) and 9th graders at the high school (LINK CREW) have been added to help create a welcoming environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and connection to their schools. Administrative teams have been working hard all summer to plan a positive experience for the return of students and staff. Additionally, building leaders have been working collaboratively to set challenging academic and behavior goals for the school year to focus on continuous improvement. We are working hard to get better together!

Throughout the summer, we have also continued our Strategic Planning process as we work together with our staff, parents, students, and community members to craft our dream for West Clermont’s future. I’m looking forward to unveiling this plan soon.

Now that the stage is set for the school year, it is our vision in 2019-20 that we take bold steps to become a stronger school district. Organizations become healthier and stronger by embracing teamwork, courage and persistence; trust and communication; financial growth and development; and a clear purpose with shared goals.

In the upcoming weeks and months, I will dig deeper into these four concepts, how they relate to the experience we provide at West Clermont and what could be possible for us as we continue to work together to help all students learn, lead, and succeed.
